Wait, why use salt to help wash the lemons if you're worried about pesticides? That doesn't make sense.

Google search:

1/4 cup white vinegar
2 Tbsp. salt
large bowl of water

It is important wash your produce, especially if you are not using organic produce because pesticides stick to your fruits and veggies. The vinegar helps remove any pesticide residue and the salt helps kill any bugs that are hanging out.

Tried this today with fried vegetables/meat on top of rice. It's really good, as it gives contrast with the dish's flavors, kind of enhancing them. It gives a refreshing and pleasant aroma but also leaves a slightly bitter aftertaste (if it's a problem for you).

Remember to put lots of lemon or else you are going to eat all shaved lemon in one or two bites.

Probably all Asian foods would taste great with the lemons (in a Vietnamese Pho, for instance), but I can't imagine how it would taste on non-Asian food like Italian pasta or Brazilian feijoada though.

I wonder if you can do the same thing with lime?

I love these educational brochure-like things that Gensoukoumuten is doing. A great way to spread the wisdom around.

Whew...finally caught up on all the Gensou Koumuten posted in the past week. (I'm sure many of them still need tagging; I do what I can, but uploaders, please feel free to research posts with similar content to get tag ideas at the time you add the images.)

I'm surprised Glasnost didn't come back in on any of these, actually. Hope the blurry, small type wasn't too big an eyestrain. (It certainly slowed me down some.)
