Me too. One of the very few anime from that period that I actually watched in the 80s... The danbooru copyright tag for it is taiyou no ko esteban. There's a couple of pictures of Zia. It was one of those Franco-Japanese coproductions, like ulysses 31.

(I've got to say that the western theme music (English/French) was far more memorable than the Japanese in this case.)

I remember the Electric Tale of Pikachu. Perhaps the first manga, or 2d stuff in general, where I've been exposed to fanservice.

I don't know about any of that, but the statue in the first panel does resemble Olmec stone heads (which were probably depictions of rulers or other powerful people). It might even be a duplicate, but I couldn't tell you if it were.
