What makes the development worthwhile is that while she initially though to be more like her old self she decided for an alternative and it worked out in her favor. Development takes time and is most recognizable if you are aware that you are taking an action that may or may not work in your favor, regardless of the eventual outcome.

The problem I have is more that Bowsette is placing all this character growth solely upon Mario... who basically doesn't exist. Maybe there was some time spent off-screen with Mario, but we, as an audience, didn't see it, so from a literary standpoint, that doesn't matter. Likewise, we're seeing the development in real time as this story goes forward totally without Mario. Character development because of Chompy would make some sense, but Mario shouldn't have an effect if he's not here unless she's suddenly realizing something he did she misses when he's not around... and that's totally absent because Mario, again, was never really set up to be a reasonable driver of the plot.
NWSiaCB /users/110655 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1904494 2019-03-25T14:28:58-04:00 2019-03-25T14:28:58-04:00 @NegativeSoul on post #3456264 (bowsette and bowser (mario) drawn by tony_kuusisto)

NWSiaCB said:

It does beg the question, though, when all that character development was actually earned?
