That's obviously the case with AL, where a lot of their official art is already practically porn, but it's still a rare enough practice with official artists doing lewds that might be considered official that it's surprising when one sees it.

Just as an example of why, there was the Touhou book that had canon Touhou content, and then some doujin mangas, including the infamous "Marisa Stole my Precious Thing" line (which became WAY more famous than any other doujin comic's random joke lines) and a manga with a Mokou/Keine shipping that readers mistook for canon by simply being in the same book. The same problem existed with Hunt Down the Freeman, the infamously shit third-party Half-Life game that nevertheless used the official Valve assets and license. (And it's not like third-party licensing means that something stops being canon - the Donkey Kong that's so famous is from Rare's use of the license.)

Hence, if the official artist draws images of the character being repeatedly raped and enjoying the abuse, then that has the potential to be seen as a "canon" aspect of the character by fans.

Companies don't necessarily want their official artists doing lewds, though. Like, Disney can't stop random artists from making lewds, but they'll certainly put something in their artist contract that prevents official artists from putting in something that seems like official art that is a lewd because they take brand management more seriously than anything else.

Not to mention the artist made her look just like one of their OCs, so they basically put their Original character into the game as Mullany.
