Actually, rather than a mistranslation, it's actually done on purpose. It has to do with the plot and all that jazz. But most sites list it as Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica though, so... yeah.

I may as well ask here. Why do we tag it as mahou_shoujo_madoka_magica when it's subtitled in the original japanese logo with Puella Magi Madoka Magica? We don't call it Keion! even though K-on! makes no sense as a title.
