Also, there wasn't all that much difference between the PS3 and PS4 graphically (and they're delaying releasing the PS5 by just upgrading the PS4) just because they're hitting the point where it costs far more money to make more detailed graphics than you get back in new players. (The difference in costs to make Halo 1 and Halo 5 is a budget about 100 times the size of the first game.) To try to make that up, they try to make the lowest-common-denominator style of game while also stuffing microtransactions in, when some of the most popular games are all made for 1/1000th the cost, and have silly, cartoony graphics, like Minecraft, (entirely stock assets) PUBG, Fortnight, and (decent but obviously stylized graphics in its time, but obviously dated) WoW, TF2, Overwatch....

I was honestly kind of grudging on the difference between PS2 and PS3. Yeah, better graphics and it was in hi definition, but I didn't feel the need for it at the time, and it also met with the first real decline in games due to the spike in costs. Just compare the library of games for the Super Nintendo, the PS1, and the PS2 to what came out on the PS3 and PS4 (counting only physical full releases, at least - small apps or budget games may make up for the numbers). The PS2 was the peak of full game releases, and the peak of the variety of genres a AAA publisher was willing to sell game catering to. Ever since, because of the rising cost of actually using all that graphical capability, the AAA industry has stopped caring about anything that isn't an FPS open world sandbox with level grinding and microtransactions.
