Tag Group for Verbs and Gerunds?

Posted under Tags

I've been wondering if there should be a compilation of tagged verbs and gerunds in a tag group, something like Tag Group:Verbs and Gerunds. Basically collect any tags that end with -ing and designate them as a concrete verb like playing, washing and undressing; or an -ing verb that can be used as a gerund as well like building (making a structure vs. the structure itself), drawing (creating a picture vs. the physical picture) and wedding (the act of being wed vs. the ceremony itself). Likewise, nouns like slap, pose and wink can also function as gerunds.

I ask this because there are a lot of tags being used in the verbal tense, but there are instances where the gerund form is preferred. See forum #11808, forum #90186 and forum #56720 for examples. I think it'd be very helpful to have a tag group as well as some guidelines beneath each header explaining why a verb or a gerund is being used for this particular tag. If anyone wants to suggest a verb <-> gerund alias/implication, it would be helpful to have this tag group as a reference as well.

Off the record, it's amazing how gerunds are such tricky little devils on Danbooru.

Okay, so I got started on the list here -> tag_group:verbs_and_gerunds

A couple of things I want to mention is that I hope the definitions are clear enough. I know that grammar is a dull and boring subject (believe me, I went through the advanced stuff for a transcription course), and there are tons of variants and clauses and participles and other crazy stuff that could've caused me to write an essay rather than a short description. To make things easier, I bolded what I thought was most important in differing the two terms. If you guys don't agree with the current definitions (and I think they need work too), then I can update them with better suggestions.

Another is that while working on this preliminary list, I came across a few verbs that I couldn't identify as to which as which. So I placed them in a temporary 'Ambiguous' header until further discussion to sort them out.

Also, if you guys don't agree on any verbs or gerunds I put in their lists, note why. I'm only relying on my perspective and experience to sort these out for now.

Yeah the noun list can go. I imagine it was just included because someone did a *ing* search and cataloged all the hits.
