Ive done all I can to clean the vehicle tag.

At the moment it contains images with vehicles that are to bizarre to assign a tag like post #2017412 (ski mecha?) and post #354170 (hover leek?).
Posts where there is not enough of the vehicle to tell what it is like post #1341645 (racing car?) and post #2230777 (space ship?).

And posts with vehicles that are hard to classify like post #1805771 (car or tank?) and post #651433 (not really a hover board or a hover bike.)

Any suggestions what to do with these? Create a weird vehicle tag for the first group?

Nah, I wouldn't tag this as a train then, but as the construction which is suspension railway. That is enough to describe this precisely.

That's an overhead (or suspension) railway.

The vehicles for suspension railways are still called trains.

It could be given its own tag on here but it would probably have to be gardened for each (rare) usage as it would inevitably be a somewhat counter-intuitive tag.

That's still a ground vehicle, in that it is designed to travel on the ground even if it isn't on the ground in the image.

The bulk update request #721 has been approved.

Note: I removed the update vehicle -> -vehicle portion. The reason for this, is while these tags certainly cover the bulk of vehicles, the tag should be manually purged and screened through, because there will be vehicles not covered yet and should be sorted through as they're discovered. One of the tags that comes to mind is hover_bike and where exactly it fits into this (I feel it should probably be under a new hover_vehicle tag to avoid confusion with hovercraft).

After a few suggestions over the last couple of days, I changed the request to remove all of the implications to vehicle, and I also added in a mass removal of the vehicle tag.

I've never done a subtraction with a mass update before, so could someone check me on the format?

Not really... I just did a quick one pass search. I knew that I was probably leaving certain vehicles out, but I wanted to at least get the framework of something up which could always be added to later.

While the hierarchy is nice, I'm also not convinced that vehicle as an overall tag for anything that moves is really useful or necessary. While the technical definition of "vehicle" is "anything that transports people or goods" in common English usage most people take "vehicle" to mean a motor vehicle, i.e. cars, trucks, motorcycles etc. Having a catchall tag might make metrics easier, but I think tag utility should be prioritized.

If you wanted to include armored vehicle I would have it imply ground vehicle but not military vehicle directly, as there are some armored vehicles that are not military (post #2341493). You could then have tank and armored personnel carrier imply armored vehicle. I'm not sure that's entirely necessary, as I couldn't find any other tags for armored vehicles that aren't tanks or APCs (which only has 6 posts), so it might be a needless extra step.

One reason is if the vehicle in the picture can be identified as such, but the type of it cannot. Also, if someone were interested in the metrics of vehicles on Danbooru, there would be no real easy way to derive the grand total, I mean, good luck figuring out the addition/subtraction rules for that mess. And of course, there might be someone that wants to search for vehicles in general.

I'd be interested in what others think on this. Regardless, I'll go ahead and update the bulk request to include the hierarchy as above, and like before, feel free to edit it as necessary.

I like that hierarchy, but is there even a need for all-encompassing vehicle tag if we make intermediate categories for watercraft, aircraft and ground vehicles? User will probably know what type of *craft they're searching for.

Spacecraft should be left as a stand-alone category, I think.

Some spacecraft are also aircraft (such as a spaceplane), but definitely a dedicated spacecraft may lack the ability to enter and operate within an atmosphere. There will likely be visuals that differentiate a spacecraft from an aircraft, such as their means of propulsion.

A space station should be considered a structure, and not a spacecraft. Some may have means of moving, but most will lack it beyond what is necessary to maintain a specific orbit.

Going with that for a space station, an artificial island built on say floating platforms or one that hovers in the air would also not qualify as a vehicle, whether an aircraft or watercraft.

As far as I'm aware, there are no real space craft that can fly. The closest was the space shuttle, and even so it barely counted as a glider.

I would say that the main difference is that aircraft are optimized for travel through the air, whereas space craft are optimized for travel through space.

After thinking about it for a bit, why don't we make things simple with a hierarchical scheme where the 4 main groups would be the 4 physical domains, i.e. air, sea, ground, space, plus a special category for stuff like military vehicles. I gave an initial stab at it below, and it is by no means a complete product so please feel free to comment.

Note: For the chart below, the tags that are bolded already have implications to the tags above them on the hierarchy. Tags that are italicized do not exist yet.

Also, I was attempting to be glib with the underline, italic and bolding of the word "the" when referring to THE Wiki, as in the one and only Wiki[/b][/i], i.e. Wikipedia, which is where my link leads. Attempt failed... :-(So yeah, I pretty much copy/pasted the first paragraph of the Vehicle article from Wikipedia and added it to the wiki on this site as well my introductory paragraph for the this implication request since it was as good as a definition as any I've ever heard.

I'm pretty sure the wikis existed long before, but unfortunately they're now currently attributed as having been written by you (BrokenEage98) just today, so can't exactly see when some of those concepts were added and by who to the wiki.

I think an issue is on how people want to utilize these tags, and adding all vehicles makes the vehicle tag extremely broad. For the most part of what I recall though, the vehicle tag has been predominately used for ground vehicles and so I'm not sure if we want to turn it into a catchall for every type of vehicle.

If we do do this implication though, I feel that we'll want sub-catchall tags to cover the different types of vehicles (ground, air, water, space, etc) and so would be hesitate to simply implicate many of these directly to the vehicle tag.

According to the Wiki, a vehicle is a mobile machine that transports people or cargo. Typical vehicles include wagons, bicycles, motor vehicles (motorcycles, cars, trucks, buses), railed vehicles (trains, trams), watercraft (ships, boats), aircraft and spacecraft.

I added all of the vehicle types I can think that are reasonably populated and not currently covered. I also added warship & jet fighter for military vehicles.

If there is anything missing from either the regular or military vehicles, please chime in (or edit the request directly [builder+]).
