The hair tag is unintuitive and constantly needs cleaning up. Im not sure if severed is the best word but "loose hair" can be a hairstyle and "detached hair" brings the mind to wigs.

The tag alias hair -> severed_hair (alias #15102) has been rejected.

Wouldn't a mass update be better and creating a disambiguation wiki for this tag?

That would become an often used "do not use tag", requiring a lot of cleaning. An alias would show up when the tagging is being done. Easier to correct in the moment.

I feel that “do not use” tags are easier to clean because any use of such a tag is incorrect. Aliasing it to another legitimate tag would require manual checking of every post and the tag being re-added to older posts would be harder to catch.

I think a lot of the cases of accidental use of hair tags is when people use space instead of underscore. I did it myself once - typing "brown hair" instead of "brown_hair", and didn't realise my mistake until someone removed the "brown" tag. Having the alias show up wouldn't really help with these, and it would thus just change the tag which is getting polluted.

+1 to a mass update and making hair a "do not use" tag.

Detached hair does not mean wigs. See the current wiki definition, which is how it's generally used.

Seeing as this request has been inactive for two months, does anyone object if I clean up the hair tag again and then move the rest manually to detached_hair, making hair a do not use tag?

Detached hair is for entire locks of hair that unrealistically pop off their owners like hair accessories, like in post #223149 or post #1281956. Hair that gets pulled out or cut off looks quite different, so I think this tag should remain distinct and be used only for its current purpose.

This is not to say that hair should be left as-is. This tag is an absolute mess and will be until it gets a better name. I'm partial to lost hairs but there may be something better.
