I'm of the opinion that character and artist tags derived from a generic term should be specified by something, not that a idolmaster in this instance could lay claim to the producer tag just form sheer weight in numbers. The existence of a Vocaloid usage of producer can be argued to make a producer_(vocaloid) which I agree with.

This seems all resolved much cleaner by less than 5 minutes of retagging than a mass update that could lead to future errant use of the tag generically or for another copyright. It seems clear to me why this should be the case but since you've made this request I'll spell out the scenarios: 1) someone tags using producer to represent someone of the occupation; or 2) someone tags for another copyright's producer thinking it's right for being green. Either case is caused by laziness, not having an expansive knowledge of every anime/game/manga/web series/doll/light novel ever produced, or just error given you may make a few mistakes after a binge of uploading a few hundred posts.

Why follow a principle of making things less specific instead of more so? There is obvious—albeit marginal—harm in being less so but what is there to gain from it?

The series has been around for over 10 years and I can't think of a more relevant use of the term on this site.

There is exactly one non-idolmaster, vocaloid image (post #2679650) on the site that uses the generic version of the tag, and as far as I can tell, both characters in the image are accounted for by other tags. There apparently is a producer character used by some vocaloid fans, but it's so minor that this the only image to reference it. It is also likely that this character is only called producer due to the popularity of idolmaster and its use of the term. The remaining producer images are all tagged that way because it's implicated by producer_(cosplay) instead of producer_(idolmaster) for some reason.

There are a number of other derivative producer tags that haven't been listed as they can easily be done manually. producer_(idolmaster_anime) is excluded to avoid confusion with other the anime producer tags.
