Is there a tag for something in a comic going outside the confines of the panels?

Posted under Tags

It's a common comic trope to have something going outsides the confines of the panels and I think there should be a tag for it.

With that in mind, I think that there should also be a more specific tag that implies the more general for boobs breaking the confines of the panels. Example: post #2473983

So you're saying that post #3622137 is a proper use of the tag? Despite the fact that the rectangle in the background is just a background and not a frame or border?

I'm not looking for a search, but a tag. But I guess it will do. I think there would be interest in one specifically for breasts, so I'll see about creating one and implying it to outside_border. Hastily skimming through 2 pages of the search result you provided revealed two new posts that could use a tag like that. post #3254152 and post #3254066.

Why would we need a tag that is essentially a combination of two other tags (outside_border/fourth_wall + comic in this case)? Fourth wall is the proper tag to use in this situation and combined in a search with comic to get the posts you want.

I would never that that post with any kind of border tag so no, I don't think it fits.

It's a mistake to think that a border has to have width.

border:

1. The outer edge of something.

In fact it's most common that borders don't have width.

Edit:

After reading Unbreakable's response above that came under a minute before mine, I just wanted to point out that outside border doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the border tag, unless we make it so which I would be against myself.

I think there is a term called "bleed" where the artwork goes to the edge of the page instead of being confined to a frame or border. You see the term on guides that come with manga paper.

https://www.clipstudio.net/en/howto/manga_02 should explain this clearly.

Is that what you are looking for?

About fourth_wall, I think that it's a grave misunderstanding to use it for characters bleeding outside the panels. The fourth wall has nothing to do with the panels in a comic. Unless the characters are acknowledging the existence of the panels it's simply an artistic choice. The fourth wall is the imaginary wall between the audience and the characters on a stage. The fourth wall is broken when the characters acknowledge either the audience or the fact that they are in a piece of fiction.

Having the characters bleed outside the panels is not a narrative choice, unlike breaking the fourth wall which is entirely narrative.

Ahem

With that out of the way, what I really wanted was the outside_border tag, which I still think is being misused for images where the background happens to be a rectangle (maybe rectangle_background would be a better tag for those). What I want with this tag is to make a derivative tag specifically for when a character's breasts are hanging outside the panel borders. Because I'm sure there's more people than just me that would be interested in such a tag.

Does breasts_outside_border work for you guys?
Or perhaps breasts_over_border or panel_breaking_breasts?
I think the first one best signals the implication to the outside_border tag, while the second tag better describes the phenomenon as the breasts often look to be resting on the border. The last one feels most impactful.
