I question this one. The wiki for anal is old, and I suspect that what was meant by "anal sex" meant specifically penetration of the anus by the penis. So I don't think this implication would work. Tags like anilingus are not also tagged anal, so I believe general use also mostly goes by my above interpretation of the anal tag.

The anal tag can be seen as a counterpart to the sex tag, which I believe (and whose definition can be interpreted as) is only for penetration of the vagina by the penis. The vast majority of images tagged fingering do not also use the sex tag, so if vaginal fingering doesn't imply the use of the sex tag, then likewise the anal fingering tag doesn't imply the use of the anal tag.

The system I used back at the start was for anal sex pictures to have both anal and sex tags and for vaginal sex pictures to have vaginal and sex - i.e. anal, oral and vaginal were intented as modifiers to the sex tag. IIRC the sex, oral and anal tags were already in use and I introduced vaginal or at least tried to popularise it and created to wiki page.

I'm still not sure whether this was better or worse than using anal_sex, oral_sex and vaginal_sex and i'm still not - although a lot of tools that we have now like mass edits and implications didn't exist at the time or at least weren't as accessible.

I interpreted anal as being for anal penetration, not specifically for anal intercourse. An anal -sex search demonstrates that there are many things tagged anal that aren't intercourse (and a lot of things that aren't tagged sex but should be).

This. Anal is not just for sex, as evident from searches like anal insertion.

While we're at it, can we do away with double_spread? It's the same as a search for spread_anus spread_pussy.
