The FNC (Fabrique Nationale Carabine) is a Belgian-designed 5.56x45mm assault rifle, developed in 1976 at Fabrique Nationale de Herstal. It is derived from the commercially unsuccessful CAL (Carabine Automatique Léger), which in turn was a scaled-down version of the FAL.
