Oh my god, Maja. That, along with Alfred J. Kwak (which isn't represented here, sadly), was my very first anime. Long before I even knew what anime was. Or even before I knew of the existence of a country named Japan.

Oddly enough, both are co-productions, on which Japan and Germany participated, among others.

Alignn said:
Moomin was an anime?! I remember seeing it on TV, but just thought it a regular cartoon...

Many people do. When you ask a Swede which was his or her first anime (at least those born in the eighties like me, who were too young for Silver Fang but still remember when Moomin was on TV), they're likely to say Pokémon or Sailor Moon. However, it was probably Moomin.

Moomin (Mumin. Tove Jansson was a Finnish author, but like many Finns she had Swedish as her first language.),
Nils no fushigi no tabi (Nils Holgerssons underbara resa. Written by Nobel price winner Selma Lagerlöf.)
and Supuun oba-san (Teskedsgumman, by Alf Prøysens. Yes, they actually made an anime based on those books. Actually written in Norwegian, but the Swedish translation was published simultaneously with the original).

While it's not represented in this picture, I also have to mention the anime based on Runer Jonsson's Vicke Viking books. While these books and its characters are pretty obscure in Sweden (you've probably never even heard of them), they're still big in Germany and Japan for some reason. Eiichiro Oda is a huge fan of the old 70's Vicke anime (even claiming it to be a major inspiration for One Piece) and the characters have made a cameo in Vinland Saga.
