Actually, the owl in the original film had "horns," or the tufts of feathers sticking up out of its head, and different colour patterns on its body feathers, which this version seems to be lacking.

Or if you want to be really pedantic, the owl in the film was a Eurasian Eagle Owl (Bubo Bubo), while this one looks to be a Short-Eared Owl (Asio Flammeus), just without the stripes on its body and wings.

Or the artist could just claim that this is just another synthetic animal made by cyberneticists who didn't have access to photos/stuffed versions of the living specimens . . .
