According to what I read, it doesn't attach to your tongue. It kills it off, and then replace it. That thing replaces your tongue. After your tongue fell off.

Aaaa-haha, wow...

It's a reference to a tongue-eating louse, a parasite that attaches itself to the mouth of a fish to steal a share of the fish's food. (And both a male and female go in as a pair, so they are basically constantly doing it in the stump where the tongue used to be...)
