Note the other examples I gave in the Pointless Pools thread and here - while the Houshou story (Mothers Are Strong) takes place chronologically before the others, it's its own pool because while the story shares characters who will appear in the main Miss Akebono pool, it's a different story that happens in the same universe (and was published under a different title from that series by the author in book form.

I can verify that Shino didn't bundle it into the main Miss Akebono collection). This also applies to the Path of Kiso story (after the Mothers Are Strong story, before the main Miss Akebono story). The Kongou and Tone story is also separate (although it's the earliest story chronologically it didn't involve the Shitty Admiral and wasn't on his base), and while Miss Abukuma and the Shitty Admiral is taking place during the main storyline on the same base, it's published as a one shot that isn't included in the Miss Akebono volumes.

But in the meantime, we need to find out who split this off....
Jarlath /users/56947 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1564555 2016-07-22T16:13:57-04:00 2016-07-22T16:44:52-04:00 @NWSiaCB on post #2429613 (admiral, suzuya, and murakumo (kantai collection and 1 more) drawn by kouji_(campus_life))

Jarlath said:

Just putting everything into one pool doesn't often help the reader - trying to find a specific story arc is impossible without going through multiple hidden sections in Hang In There Kogasa-san and then clicking links to hope you run into the right strip just because the pool is so damned big. If Eastern and Little Nature Deity were restarted, but continued on directly from the plot of Visionary Fairies in Shrine, then yes, all those stories absolutely should be made into one single pool, as well, because they're a single continuous narrative arc. Frankly, I think there's plenty of pool abuse already with things like Wakabayashi Tokiya's stories being split into multiple super-short pools when telling the same story, but those are at least pools in a single chronological order with links to where to go next, making it logical if not entirely convenient for the reader.

In fact, just going back a few posts from this one on the "original" Kouji Manga pool, the "Ryuujou Returns" pool is already entirely integrated into the Kouji Manga pool, obviously making that pool redundant, but also clearly demonstrating why both "Ryuujou Returns" and "Ryuujou's Absence" were obviously part of the same story as the main "Admibro" pool all along.

The way things are set up now, Kouji's pools have no use at all for the reader. The only purposes of pools are to either make searching for images with similar themes easier, which these pools fail to do because they are split based upon the arbitrary criteria of what Kouji felt like naming the manga that day, or to guide readers on what order they are meant to read a single, continuous narrative without being confused by all the other random works the same artist has ever made. Consolidating the Kouji pools would at least make the pools serve the latter function. Naming pools to fit an authorial naming scheme, which is not an organizational function anywhere but within the Author's own head, serves no purpose to anyone who hasn't already read everything Kouji already has written, and therefore doesn't need pools to begin with.

If they aren't going to be consolidated, they might as well be deleted outright, since they serve no purpose and don't even incorporate images based on any criteria actually meaningful to a new reader, or one catching up on the story after an absence, whom is the end user of a pool. I realized over a year ago that following the pools was impossible when I actually tried it, not having read Kouji from his very first posting, and the interconnecting web of pools is only more complex, now. The only way to make any sense of the Kouji-verse is to simply search "Kouji_(Campus_Life)" and go through everything he's done, chronologically.

I agree there are too many unconnected pools for Kouji. What a disagree with you on his how to connect them - certain pools of doujin stories link to each other via their descriptions that note the premise of the story, then where in the "canon" it fits, reading order wise. Bakery Kazami is an example of this.

Another is to consolidate many of the smaller pools in here, but only after making sure they're direct successor stories - otherwise, the reader still gets confused, as a chronological order is impossible with how Kouji releases stories - several stories are of questionable canon status (the crazy Haruna ones, the Shipgirl Feelings unit) or were published later but would've happened before other stories.

Just putting everything into one pool doesn't often help the reader - trying to find a specific story arc is impossible without going through multiple hidden sections in Hang In There Kogasa-san and then clicking links to hope you run into the right strip just because the pool is so damned big. But, unlike Kouji, Mizuki Hitoshi's clearly made the stories all part of one canon.

A better example for what we might do with Kouji is what we've done with Shino's books - there's the main Akebono and the Shitty Admiral pool, then we've got the other stories which take place on the same base (and which were published under different books, like many of Kouji's) in their own pools, as things there which obviously affected future stories (like how Houshou's gotten her) but aren't part of the main storyline.

But this story is obviously part of the main Kouji manga, as I'd argue several of the other pools are, while things like the Bukki story are separated by the distance between this base and Tokonatsu-kun's... Or the Fairies Everyday Life, as they don't touch the main storyline. Ditto half the 2koma theatre stories.

But that's an argument for the forums.
Jarlath /users/56947 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1564488 2016-07-22T11:57:04-04:00 2016-07-22T11:57:04-04:00 @yunashiku on post #2429613 (admiral, suzuya, and murakumo (kantai collection and 1 more) drawn by kouji_(campus_life))
I guess i'm a creep then orz.
yunashiku /users/459965 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1564471 2016-07-22T11:04:57-04:00 2016-07-22T11:04:57-04:00 @NWSiaCB on post #2429613 (admiral, suzuya, and murakumo (kantai collection and 1 more) drawn by kouji_(campus_life))

Jarlath said:

This story fits within the main kouji arc, and doesn't strictly depend on reading previous stories to understand, unlike the Everlasting Summer Blizzard story which is basically nonsensical unless you've read Fubuki the Lonely Island.
