Yeeeahh~</p> <p>Reminds me, didn't the Brits have rail(way) guns as well?</p> </blockquote><p>To be fair the major downfall of those tanks was the low crew numbers making it difficult by having to focus on one specific action.</p><p>Especially the commanders were kinda screwed considering they had to be the gunner/loader for the main guns while leading the tank...</p><p>When french tanks got to fight properly they proved to be very strong against german tanks which mostly comprised of Pzkpfw Is, IIs, several IIIs, plus the occasional StuG and Pzkpfw IV but both of these were equipped with 75mm mortars, not the 37mm AP guns the Pzkpfw III had at the time.</p><p>The 37mm gun being the go to anti armor gun had issues penetrating B1 tanks and sometimes even S35 Somuas, which was part of the reason for why the german army had wanted to use 50mm guns on it's Pzkpfw IIIs (And later upgraded to these), however these guns weren't ready by the time of the invasion.</p><p>The rest is up to inproper use of tanks as infantry support rather than cavalry and holding back the modern aircrafts that were on par with Germany's (and better in terms of fuel and hence maximum flight time) kinda didn't help either... but that's what you get for letting the same guys have their hands in the military that later were part of the Vichy faction.</p><p>Almost like they didn't want to win the war...</p><p>--------------</p><p>Disclaimer: That is not to say that France stood a chance against Germany, but in a straight up fight B1 vs. Pzkpfw III Ausf.
