If only Zack Snyder could present that aspect better in his movies. In both Man of Steel and BvS you can see him attempting to ask those questions, but they ended up overshadowed.

My personal best stories involving Superman would have to be:

"Peace on Earth" where Superman spends one whole day dedicated to combating world hunger. And the story follows him on his mission, his internal observations and what lessons he learns when he comes up short of his goal. Plus the art by Alex Ross is breathtaking.

And

"What's So Funny About Truth, Justice, and the American Way?" Superman meets a new hero group called "The Elite"; and they have no qualms about killing and collateral damage. Eventually the two come to a head as Manchester Black (the leader of The Elite) tells Superman that "his era is over" ; and they're going to show the world exactly that by challenging him.
