Aaaaah!

You might fare better with burying some rust-resistant metal objects. There's so many list out there that includes ten most used (daily)item post-apocalypse, but I like this one the most (all of them need to be both rustproof and acidproof if you want to make it heirloom to next generation):

1: A loupe. The ultimate fire starter when there's sun. Any focusing lens would do, but make sure it's small enough not to be a hindrance.
2: An utility knife. Having this equals so many thing at once, but losing this also equals losing that many things.
3: A bag to store all your spoils.
4: A hammer. Weapon and tool in one, use this on rock to make rock blades, and then arm yourself with a stone-age spear. Of course you can try to embrace your inner blacksmith and try smithing with it...that, if you can.
5: Metal canteen/jug/thermos. Portable and ensure you stay hydrated.

6-10 items are not must-haves, but good to get.

6: Survival knife. Yes, you already have an utility knife, but that's only for scavenging things. You already have a hammer as a weapon, so why knife? It's not like there'll be wild animals for you to hunt nor you're living in the jungle. Plus it will dull and you might not be able to sharpen it.
7: Body armor. Useful, but weighs you down.
8: Extra pair of shoes. Just loot one if you need a replacement.
9: Personal hygiene set. As these are expendables you might just want to loot'em once you run out. Don't underestimate caries, though---it could kill you.
10: Compass and maps. The physical one, of course. Although there'll bound to be changes on the maps after a nuclear war, you can try using this to plan your journey. The best bet to run after a nuclear war is FAR AWAY from the fallout zone (which suck if you're on a small island nation or such). Try visiting the smaller towns instead of large ones: large ones has large population, hence large consumption rate and when the resource went dry, they'll resort to crime. Rural, farming areas has better survivability rate, given they produce their own product; even abandoned farmland would have seeds and such you can loot if you want to try starting your own garden.
Rathurue /users/120517 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1800686 2018-03-16T13:22:01-04:00 2018-03-16T13:22:01-04:00 @user_509926 on post #3051760 (stephen hawking (real life) drawn by masa_room)

Rathurue said:

(alottastuff)

Are you seriously telling me that I have been spending all day collecting sticks and stones for NOTHING?! Einstein stated that because if there was a nuclear holocaust that causes global extinction of humanity, the reminder of humanity would replace their numbers and when the rising numbers causes (another) resource crisis, they will wage wars with each other.

The problem with the argument lies with three factors: one, the severity of destruction caused by WW3. Second, the passage of time between WW3 and WW4. Third, the existence of vaults and bunkers.

If we're talking about Wars nowadays, it's become synonymous with remote strikes and nuclear weaponry (because honestly, who wanted to risk their ass---and valuable equipment by sending infantry, tanks and whatnot to claim the target? One drone is all you need...or maybe one cruise missile). Nuclear warfare has other effect than the sheer destruction and radiation poisoning, that is EMP that roasts any form of unshielded circuitry to a hunk of cables and shit.

That's right. Keyword being 'unshielded'; Point one and point three are correlated: a country can dig a bunker like, one kilometer down or inside a mountain, shield that with one to two meters of lead and laugh all they want while nuclear explosions bombards the surface---while watching recorded shows or going through cold sleep. It's the premise of Fallout all over again. Then after the surface became habitable again, they could get out full-force, claiming the land as their own with the weapons stocked. Sure, the global tech level will take quite a nosedive but as long there's a machine able to replicate another machine it'll be a cinch: take a 3-d printer, for example. Problem with this: what one country can do, others would do it too, especially if it's about survival.

The second problem is the time between WW3 and WW4, which probably can't be determined because there's so many variables: how much the map has changed because the nuclear explosions, how much fertile land left on earth, the breeding speed and the average reproductive age after the disaster, etc, etc, but at least it would take more than one thousand years for a global-scale wars, not counting skirmishes and the likes...if we assumed nobody built a bunker. One thousand year is a relatively short period of time, if we're talking about metal object: the oldest metal artifact, is around 5000 years old meteorite beads made in Egypt. So that means there'll still be iron objects around they can use as weapon, ranging from a stainless baseball bat passed as heirloom or iron bars taken from ruined building. If there was bunkers, then Einstein's theory is instantly moot.
Rathurue /users/120517 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1800619 2018-03-16T05:59:18-04:00 2018-03-16T05:59:18-04:00 @user_509926 on post #3051760 (stephen hawking (real life) drawn by masa_room)

Random_Fanguy said:

Well, our great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren might get to.

"I do not know with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones" - Albert Einstein
user_509926 /users/509926 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1800567 2018-03-16T00:24:36-04:00 2018-03-16T00:24:36-04:00 @Random_Fanguy on post #3051760 (stephen hawking (real life) drawn by masa_room)

Garrus said:

Look on the bright side- we'll be able to LARP Fallout!

Well, our great-great-great-great-great-great grandchildren might get to.
Random_Fanguy /users/468462 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1800538 2018-03-15T22:43:44-04:00 2018-03-15T22:43:52-04:00 @Garrus on post #3051760 (stephen hawking (real life) drawn by masa_room)

T34/38 said:

The signs of a possible war is just brewing in very slowly...
