To become the person they can rely and look for comfort from. Sure, they, themselves may be emotionally upset at the time, but this is still a manipulative, arshole-ish move.
Elmithian /users/451680 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1811586 2018-04-22T13:21:20-04:00 2018-04-22T13:21:20-04:00 @azurelorochi on post #3057915 (ichigo and gorou (darling in the franxx) drawn by deru06)

Feronen said:

No, Kokoro and Futoshi were both pretty selfish in their own ways.

I know, hence why I said "maybe".

They have ultimately selfish goals, but they are able to use that selfish goal to serve other people.

The rest, nah.
azurelorochi /users/187477 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1811384 2018-04-22T00:37:30-04:00 2018-04-22T00:37:30-04:00 @Feronen on post #3057915 (ichigo and gorou (darling in the franxx) drawn by deru06)

azurelorochi said:

May I ask how she's "manipulative"? Futoshi was/is smothering and self-serving, and Kokoro acts without using her words and can't handle emotional rebuke. That's why she partner-swapped after making that promise to Futoshi. Kokoro at least admits she's a terrible person, though. Futoshi's just naive, despite his pure intentions.

Then again, this is what happens when you pair off emotionally maladjusted children and leave them to their own devices through puberty. I get Werner Franxx's methodology, and it has its merits, but this kind of human social experimentation can only end in tears.
Feronen /users/483862 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1811228 2018-04-21T14:48:34-04:00 2018-04-21T14:48:34-04:00 @azurelorochi on post #3057915 (ichigo and gorou (darling in the franxx) drawn by deru06)

Elmithian said:

The best possible end would be one where she wizened up and stopped being manipulative selfish arsehole.

May I ask how she's "manipulative"?
