He was not cut in half as horror movies would have you believe but instead he was crushed down and held in an awful position for over 3 minutes before help arrived at which point constricted blood flow throughout his body and asphyxiation had already done him in.
user_509926 /users/509926 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1821690 2018-05-28T05:43:58-04:00 2018-05-28T05:43:58-04:00 @Kraco on post #3139356 ( original drawn by ikeda_(hayato))
Normally the door stops and opens again if there's something in the way. That's why it's possible to stop the door from closing with your hand, without using any force. And the elevator most certainly wouldn't start moving if the door won't close properly. I reckon it's far more common a problem the door seems to be closed but the elevator still refuses to move than the elevator moving without the door closing.

But yeah, I have also seen the rare news. Those must have involded criminally incompetent or negligent maintenance/installation.
Kraco /users/98002 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/1821646 2018-05-28T00:40:15-04:00 2018-05-28T00:40:15-04:00 @T34/38 on post #3139356 ( original drawn by ikeda_(hayato))

cuirassier said:

I think he means the elevator move up or down without the door closed.
