Interesting. So Cryptid pictures and mythological arts or their statues will do. Mothman friend is something I want to see.

In the official guidebook (vol. 6, p. 20), the Four Symbol Friends' "de-Friendified" form is depicted as statues of their respective beasts. So, possibly they are (maybe in addition to the imaginations) based on certain objects, or yorishiro.

I wonder if they can solve the mystery case on the source of this mainland population extinction.

I think I remember somewhat from this about Kemono Friends app's gacha. I forgot where I read from. But I guess Cryptid friends always will remain mysterious without revealing their mystery origins. I think Cryptid friends were created though the strong imaginations of Cryptid fans with strong desire enough to create them though Sandstar to feed their imaginations to birth? But it's still lousy theory.

Correction: The Tasmanian devil was not confined to Tasmania. It used to live on both mainland Australia and Tasmania. However, the mainland population is long since extinct, and that specific population appears to be what is referenced by this Friend. I should be clear, the mainland population was extinct thousands of years before Europeans arrived. However, sightings and a few collected specimens raised the prospect of a relict population on the mainland. The animals in question, however, were determined to originate from the Tasmanian population based on DNA testing.

As for why cryptids like Tsuchinoko exist? Mine was uncomfortable sorting living species into the gatcha system of the game, so he came up with extinct, cryptid and mythological Friends to populate the rarer tiers.

Though for their physical composition, they're pretty much pure Sandstar IIRC.

I see. There is something bothering me. No matter what I googled or other search websites, it always led me to Tasmanian Devil instead of Australian Devil. There were the pictures and vids of Tasmanian Tiger so there might be some old pics of Australian Devil somewhere at Internet.

Any theories on how Cryptid friends were created from such nonsense of "fiction" instead of the bones or dead remains/living animals?

Cryptid as in "People claim to have seen/camera trapped/found evidence of them still being alive". It's like the dealie with the thylacine or the Eastern mountain lion. Been rumors of its survival for decades, but jack squat has actually shown up.
