The problem is, even when janitors tried to say that we should actually stick to the rules we posted, several of the moderators that have been here for a long time basically prefer there not to be any rules at all so that they can have absolute arbitrary discretion over everything, even if that means that regular users are constantly confused as to why one thing passes and another doesn't, depending purely upon the personal fetishes of a particular moderator.

If you don't like it, feel free to restart one of the many, many forum threads where this horse was flogged to death, but as long as the moderators are still moderators, and there isn't a massive user uprising demanding the rules actually be consistently enforced, nothing will change... and most users generally don't want "fair", they just want THEIR stuff approved, and don't care what happens any other way, and only complain about unfairness when it's their stuff that gets cut.
