As I recall, it was a German ocean liner that never returned to Germany since the work broke out. So the Japanese converted it into a Taiyou class light carrier, Shin'yo.

even then Graf is supposed to be her own class... either the dev team intentionally fucked up to make things simpler on the coding side?
