The Westermarck effect is what others have been referring to. You are unlikely to be attracted to people who you spent the first 6 years of your life with. That said, you're also attracted to people who are genetically similar to you so family members who were not raised together are more likely to find each other attractive.

The reason anime/manga fans have the "incest is wincest" attitude is because all the imouto's aren't actually your imouto. It's just a cute girl to the viewer. Most people with opposite sex siblings can tell you that the fascination with incest is unwarranted.

I'm pretty sure that is one of the arguments against Creationism as presented in the Bible, actually - that Adam and Eve wouldn't be able to provide enough genetic material to create a stable race.

I can personally confirm (as much as a single person's testimony can confirm something) the idea that being seperated from your siblings would counteract a sexual disgust...I have a sister who I didn't see between the ages of 1-14, and by the time she reapeared in my life, I couldn't help but realise I was INCREDIBLY attracted. In fact, I think that taking the mental patterns of being raised with them out made such a taboo thing even more attractive...just like any other "oh this is so wrong" concept. I find it amusing to think that she is about twice my age, about 30 years old, which usually turns me completely off, and yet I get horny every time I see her in her pajamas ^.^

Incest is chosen against by natural selection. Children born of incest are much more likely to have birth defects, etc. Also, there is much less variety in the gene pool as a whole where it's all incest, so the society is much more vulnerable to diseases; they also evolve at a much slower pace, so they can be "overtaken" by other organisms. Basically a species relying on incest is more likely to go extinct one way or another, so it's biologically chosen against. That's not to say some people still won't have sexual attraction to their siblings, but actually bearing a child with them is something most have a disdain for, even if not brought up that way.
