Notably though, unlike Western storyboards, all the dialogue are expected to be present in the "name". </p><p class="tn">This comes from the origin of the term, where it originally refers to captions for figures and tables (the "name" of the chart, so to speak), then to any floating text element like text in speech balloons, and finally including rough sketches to become a storyboard. Back in the days of manual typesetting, printers and publishers would ask for a "name" first to meet deadlines [the drawings can come later).</p><p>"Note" is also wasei-eigo for "notebook". (this is why the Death Note is called so, instead of "Death Notebook")</p><p>So, "storyboard notebook". They actually sell these, which are basically bound notebooks with each (A4, usually) page having a "frame" enclosing a B6 or A5 area. There are usually also additional faint or dotted lines to serve as guides (on where to divide the panels).
