[...] Chasing after the apprentice, the yamanba barged into the temple. "You! Tell me where that child is!!"
"What child?" said the head priest, without losing his calm. "I know nothing. I've been sitting here eating mochi for a while now."
"Play the fool all you like, if you don't tell me where he is I'll eat YOU in his place!"
"How about this then. Let us have a shapeshifting match. If you win, you may do with me as you like. Can you change into anything I decide?"
"Hah! You'll regret your decision. My magic powers know no limit! Name anything you wish!"
"Very well then. Can you make yourself as tall as the ceiling?"
"Piece of cake.", and in an instant, the yamanba's head touched the ceiling. "I could be the size of a mountain if I wanted to."
"So you can become as tall as you want. But I bet you couldn't become the size of a small speck."
"Who do you think I am? WATCH!" And just as quickly she shrank to the size of a grain of rice. "I can be even smaller than this!"
"That is impressive!", said the head priest. "I believe it's my turn now." And quickly, he snatched the minuscule yamanba from the floor, stuffed her into a mochi and ate it in one mouthful.
Thus the yamanba was never to be seen again, and both the head priest and the careless apprentice were saved.
