And the F4F was no slouch either--it was durable, had a higher service ceiling, and better diving characteristics than the A6M.
Project30bis /users/496253 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/763268 2011-03-22T02:15:18-04:00 2011-03-22T02:15:18-04:00 @warellis on post #787525 (hong meiling (touhou) drawn by sakurato_tsuguhi)
While the artist does make a point about the P-40 being somewhat mediocre, it's not like the Zero was that great either. With such a lightweight construction, it'd fall apart during a high speed dive, unlike the P-40, and it was slower compared to the P-40 as well. Along with that, the P-40 was much tougher than the Zero since it had armor and self-sealing fuel tanks.

The Flying Tigers in China often scored victories in P-40s due to using its superior dive speed compared to the Japanese fighters it faced.
warellis /users/253864 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/729483 2011-02-05T23:39:22-05:00 2011-02-05T23:39:22-05:00 @dacis2 on post #787525 (hong meiling (touhou) drawn by sakurato_tsuguhi)
Pah, once John Thatch developed his Weave, the Wildcats gave the Zeros a run for their money.
dacis2 /users/178033 tag:danbooru.me,2005:Comment/662703 2010-11-12T16:52:43-05:00 2010-11-12T16:52:43-05:00 @user_329668 on post #787525 (hong meiling (touhou) drawn by sakurato_tsuguhi)
Yuppers.
