LOL, Verhoeven didn't even finish the book. Big mistake. I guess he never got to the part of the power armor battles...

And then after reading Starship Troopers, decided to piss over Heinlen's work. I mean, Verheoven can make good satire, he made the original Robocop, but use your own script and your own name for it.

Actually, he was originally doing a film that had nothing to do with Starship troopers, someone just noticed a similarity and told him to get the rights to it to avoid being sued.

I read somewhere that he took om this project to intentionally piss on it, especially with the author's reputation. Never mind that ST was written years before Heinlein went off his rocker, and was actually a lot more optimistic and positive than his latter works.

I will give credit where credit is due, you are right about those things. The movie did introduce me to the glory and awesomeness that is Michael Ironside.

He had good reasons. He was in a town that got bombed by the Allies a lot as a kid and didn't like the blatant military propaganda that the book was oozing with.

I read the entire book and I got bored of it that I mentally inserted and/or replaced random adjectives and nouns so that it is more entertaining.

Its still a good read.

Under the first director's command? Unlikely, was determaned to make this movie unlike the book as possible.
MI in the books; An ass-kicking fusion of para-troopers, tanks, army and marines equipped with power armor and high powered weaponry with a high morale and esp de corps. Oh, they're willing to do insane things to bring back their wounded, no one gets left behind.
Movie MI; An utter disgrace to them, uses next to no tactics, gun (while very sexy looking I'm willing to freely admit) is almost completely worthless in the fight against the creatures. Next to no heavier weapons (expect Tac-Nuke launcher, which also appeared in the book), no sort of armor support or air support (expect for the grand total of ONE scene, which proved to be very effective which makes us wonder even more why they don't use it even more), bodyarmor can't stand a hit from an alien bug (I won't be THAT hard on them on this subject, but the fact they can do that makes me think that projects such as power armor would be under intense research or at the very least under consideration.
The bugs in the movies; I actually liked their design oddly enough, very creative, very alien.
The Bugs in the book; Hive Mind like race of bugs, with advance space weapons and FTL capable starships. Standard stuff today but agruably more believable enemy (Sci-Fi wise anyway

Yeah, I have a few issues with the movies. I do LOVE the CGI series though, a nice middle ground between the two styles.
