In terms of movement mechanics at least.
Sam plays somewhat uniquely, in that he moves more like a human being than a video game character. He can't instantly change directions, he can't immediately cancel his momentum, he can't drop more than his height without having to land on his hands, if he sprints downhill he risks losing control and tripping; things like that.

It reminds me of Dark Souls in that it forces you to be more aware of what you're doing rather than just mindlessly mashing buttons (or in Death Stranding's case, holding forward).

That's a chiral crystal, and that pole behind the ladder is indeed a generator.
bridge_baby and beached_things are probably the better choice for tag names, to avoid confusion.

I've heard it described as "a somewhat repetitive set of game mechanics awkwardly stapled to the side of a deeply confusing art film", which sounds less than positive, but I can imagine some people would be perfectly fine with that. As someone who is in the "Love it" side. I would advise looking it up. As many will say it's a very divisive game and its not for everybody.

Then just form up your own opinion if the game is for you.
