That's why you go stair dancing in the puppy cave.

(For non players, the puppy cave is a dungeon which randomizes its layout each time you go up or down a floor. Said randomization also regenerates random loot on the floor.)

Problem is, 99% of it is either a sprite replacement (which is not suitable for danbooru) or utter shit. (And I mean 3 minutes in MSPaint...) Rueken is one of the few artists I actually check up on every now and then because I like the work.

For more specificity for non-players, random failures caused by low "Literacy" skill levels or high-level books can either subtract your maximum MP from your current MP (and you take massive damage for going negative MP), cause insanity, teleport you, or summon high-level monsters you might not be able to fight early on (when you are most likely to fail reading a book).

In a random field, you can just leave, and the monsters despawn. In towns, guards kill them all, and towns reset every few days. In your house, you have to kill them yourself, or they just stay there forever... and if you die, you respawn in your house.

The main reason to join the Mage's Guild is that they have a book merchant that lets you put specific spellbooks on order, and only books of the spells you request will be in stock. (You have to have read such a book before, though...) In Elona+, there are more spellbook merchants, but you have to beat the normal game first to get to there. (That means fighting a level 80 final boss...)

The Joke is that elona gives you the option to literally 'crawl up'.
It's just her party member (the defender) mourning the moment she comes back.

Defenders have the unique ability to raise dead allies... but it doesn't actually work on player characters, since PCs just respawn immediately in their own house (after losing some of their stuff and a lot of gold).

On Pixiv the artist said the player messed up and the puppy died in the cave.
He didn't know what to tell Rilian and so he caught that beast and tries to tell her that's the puppy.. or at least a substitute.

Explanation: An early quest in Elona is given by Rilian the Dog Lover to bring her Poppy, the lost puppy from the Puppy Cave. (This is a direct homage to ADOM, where you have to save a Cute Dog for a Tiny Girl.)

This player is obviously having a little trouble getting the exact requirements here right...

(Note: Because of the way the dungeon resets each time you change a floor, and the puppy's level 1 status, it's easy for the dog to get killed by random monsters that spawn again as you ascend towards the exit. If you fail the quest by letting the dog die, however, the dog can simply be found again at the fifth and bottom floor of the dungeon.)

Kobolds, like here, are common low-level enemies that are easy to capture.
