These costumes actually make sense for me:
Merry is like Satori (always taking care of everything and everyone and also is smart)
Renko is like Koishi (she’s always full of energy, she’s cheerful and happy and she looks like she doesn’t have a care for the world around her...)

I read somewhere it was a joke about Shou releasing the little bubbles of air stuck in her pubic hair by ruffling it underwater. Dunno if that is a thing....
