Try seeing movies and count how much is done by much superior heroes against enemy trying to do futile efforts versus how much is about a single hero "showing courage against overwhelming odds" (hard-to-get love interest and uncooperative in-laws included).

The funny thing is, if I understand correctly, it's that very rationale which prompted Capcom to make 1942/1943. The Battle of Midway was seen as a point where the Americans were still the underdogs, and yet managed a decisive victory against the Combined Fleet.

It took the USA months of heavy fighting after Midway before it established naval superiority.

I don't get the "Fucking US imperialism!" bit. Did America prevent Japan from importing black tea at some point?

That's how I always thought of it. They just demilitarize the girls. Like when soldiers turn in their gear to a quatermaster. Or like how the USS Missouri was turned into a floating museum.

Very few ships are lucky enough to become museums, though.

This predates Kantai Collection by a good couple years, doesn't it?

By a decade at least. This guy has artwork of this stuff dating back to 2003.

And he's not the only one. Konoekihei has artwork (post #1132245) showing that he's been turning ships into girls since 1994.

Huh. I was looking at the source link and didn't see any mention of Orin or Okuu in the tags. In fact Google Translate says one of the tags means "another cat," and the title for this picture is something like "Furubu Char."

And "Furubu" seems to be this guy's name: http://theinterviews.jp/red-mandora-flve1

So is this meant to be an OC?

How much can their life be peaceful without the grail.

Without the Grail, everyone's lives would have been very different to begin with, and very few of them would have ended up like this. Most of the Servants would have never known each other, and none of them would have ever met their Masters.

The Einzberns would have had no reason to invite the Magus Killer to act as their Master for HF4, after all, and that means he'd never have met Irisviel, and Illyasviel would never have been born. He'd still be doing jobs with Maiya.

Definitely a fusion of Satori and Utsuho; from what I could gather, Kikugetsu titled this picture "Satori Reiuji."

I THINK this part from the artist's comments (さとり「お空とフュージョンしたわ。貴方も私とフュージョンしましょ?」) translates to--

Satori: Okuu fused with me. Shall we fuse, too?

Why exactly would these beings merge into one entity?

Considering the kinds of characters in this fusion? I'd say some of them might have been unwilling.

Might have even been a "be careful what you wish for" case for some of the girls, too. Somewhere in the back of this thing's head, Utsuho is probably wishing she never said "Won't you fuse with me?"

Oh ... oh man.

I would love to see an updated remake of the original SNES version of Star Fox someday, especially if it looked like THIS.

I think the feathered wings are Sariel.

They're probably a fusion of both Sariel's and Utsuho's wings; they look like they fade to black, and it doesn't seem to be caused by a shadow.

Oh jeez. Walpurgisnacht for Touhou bosses.

I said it in the other picture, but I blame Suika for gathering all the final/ex/phantasm bosses into a lump and Utsuho fusing everyone into one being.

Though I have to wonder, if they're all some sort of Youkainacht (ha, almost sounds like Juggernaut!), does that mean we'll see the silhouettes of the fusees giggling madly as its minions?

Now THIS takes the "Stages Gathering" concept to its logical end.

Suika gathered all the final/ex/phantasm bosses together into one big lump, and Utsuho fused everyone into a single being.

That's just GW's justification for keeping girls out of the boys-only club.

Hey, Claymore did the same thing, only gender flipped.

SO... who is cosplaying who?

The guy's notes for this picture mentions Gundam 00 stuff like the 0-RAISER and the Trans Am (at least from what I was able to glean; someone else is gonna have to double check me).

So, I think Utsuho's literally fused herself into Sanae, like a power booster.
