You gotta admit his rseolve to protect his remaining family, even if one hated him for putting her in a position of prestige at the cost of her wordly desires and the other infected.

There's a fairly popular fan theory that Cliffheart was intentionally poisoned and that's why SilverAsh is so violently protective of them. Especially Pramanix.

Huh, I haven't heard that one before, but it'd explain a lot of Silverash's behavior, up to, and including having Pramanix become the Karlaen Saint

I think it is not so much of theory as is canonical. I believe in two of SilverAsh's profile, he himself deduced that Cliffheart's infection was planned by one of his political enemies as a way to make him give up the ore mining company he was in charge of. Secondly, there is the anonymous letter that Cliffheart receieved which made him bring Pramanix to Rhodes for further protection because of the ensuing political unrest in Kjerg.
Pramanix becoming a saint also leans towards conspiracy as it helps keep her under observation and thus something they can use against her brother.
Except apparently Silverash pushed her into taking the trial for sainthood, and his actions leading up to then drove a wedge so deep Pramanix will no longer acknowledge Silverash's existence in the same room.
In addition to the protection being a saint provides from public backing and the spiritual position of sainthood in Kjerg, it is likely that Silverash used the position to reinforce his family's importance in the country to block off his enemies from targeting his sister. Unfortunately, Pramanix being sent to Rhodes Island indicates that said enemies are so angry that Silverash won't just roll over and die with his family that nothing short of holing up in Rhodes Island is considered safe enough anymore.
