Why are we continuing to duplicate the URL information on both the wiki portion and the URLs portion for artist entries?

Example: artist #17671

Maintaining wikis with such information is harder and more likely to be outdated, plus it adds a lot of clutter and takes up unnecessary space on artist entries. As I understand it, that information was originally added since the artist URLs didn't appear when searching for artist tags, however that is no longer the case (example: jack_hamster, click the "Artist" link at the top next to the "Posts" link), as the artist entry is now shown in its entirety on the excerpt section of the post search page.

Therefore, I'd like to propose removing any and all artist URLs from artist entries unless there is extra information about the URL, such as that it requires a password or some other novel information. Thoughts?

I’m curious because I’ve just started using this site not too long ago and I’m slightly paranoid that they still may be viewable through Danbooru’s API or another middle man.

First off, I want to apologize for neglecting the forum during the migration. I wanted to focus on getting all the critical bugs fixed.

I think we're now at the point where things have stabilized. The issues with uploads earlier were server/database related and were not caused by code bugs, and I've set up some monitoring tools to make sure I get alerted when start failing. I've been keeping a close eye on Github to keep track of issues. I also want to thank everyone who took the initiative to sign up and submit issues. You've all proven invaluable in me getting the site up and running smoothly.

That being said, I'm sure people still have some issues they want me to hear about and I'm now at a point where I can start listening. I just have one request: I want to focus on two things: (1) bugs and (2) inconsistencies with the old Danbooru. Please save any major enhancements or suggestions for the future. I'll get to those in due time.

Even if you don't have a Github account I encourage you to visit the issue list to see if there's anything that stands out, whether you strongly agree or disagree with an issue.

Based on "tag what you see", these characters are basically identical. One name is used in the games, the other name is used in the manga.

I mean, there are sometimes a few context differences. Like, if Whi-Two is wearing a Team Plasma uniform it's most certainly a manga thing, not a game thing. But in most cases, even her clothes are the same in the games and the manga. Often the only "difference" is that the artist mentioned in the commentary "I'm drawing Whi-Two" or used tags like "#whi-two".

I think at some point years ago I tried to properly separate these character tags based on the manga/game context. But anyway, these tags are a bit messy right now. (I mean, there are posts using these tags in an inconsistent manner.) Case in point: post #3380430 is specifically about the manga. I know it because the "PKSP" (an abbreviation for the manga title) appears, otherwise the characters would be identical in either the games or the manga. But for some reason 3 characters are using manga name tags and 1 character is using the game name tag. That obviously can be fixed by just removing the game name and using the manga name if we want. But maybe just merging the names is better? There are a bunch of other posts with the same problem.

I can create a proper BUR to do it. I'm just checking if there's any discussion needed about it.

For comparison, some others characters have a single tag for Pokémon games/manga: red_(pokemon), ookido_green, etc.

We can search specific copyrights by just using copyright tags:

People have been asking for a thread where feedback on uploads could be obtained. So here it is. I have some reservations about how acrimonious this thread is likely to get, and if it turns into nothing more than a flame-fest, I will lock it.

As we all know, making sure an image is correctly tagged as loli or not is rather important, though it can be rather dubious at best. I'm starting this thread in hopes of getting a centralized point of checking.

If you're unsure whether or not a certain image or set of images warrants the loli tag, post it here (in "post #******" format, without the qoutes) and hopefully someone more knowledgeable will clear it up.

Making this thread since we'll probably need a place to organize where to request replacement posts given the way we now handle image samples. Let's get this warning out of the way first.

DO NOT REPLACE SAMPLES EXPLICITLY. LET A MODERATOR REPLACE THEM.

This thread is for primarily replacing image samples, and more specifically image samples whose full size images are typically no longer available (bad id, protected link, etc). If you have an image that is better than a post that is already legitimate to begin with (sourced from the artist's Twitter, Pixiv, deviantArt, Tumblr, etc) just upload it separately.

If the post you want to replace still has a live source, tag it replaceme instead so a moderator can replace it. Otherwise, post here.

The way this works is this. Post a post #, and a link to the full-size, like this:

You can share multiple posts to replace in a single comment, but just keep this syntax the same.

Twitter md5 mismatches are fine, since we can't really check those for integrity quite just yet. You are also welcome to post them here if you are absolutely sure one is a sample of another, and it would be more preferable than if you replaced it altogether (since the post will still be live as we replace it, and it won't count against your record if it goes deleted).

One more thing: Confirmed image samples MUST come from the same source. Let's put that into example:

You can't claim that an inferior twitter post is an image sample of a superior post on pixiv that should be replaced; just upload the pixiv image, and parent the Twitter post. That goes for any other inferior -> superior source given both are from the artist, ex. Tumblr -> artist blog (post #2785414).
You also can't claim an image is a sample that should be replaced if it has no source provided and doesn't match an md5 anywhere on a given site (whether that be Twitter, Tumblr, Pixiv/seiga), but you can flag it for deletion once a superior post has been following how we treat unfairly modified posts (waifu2x, unsourced third-party conversions, etc).

This is the translation request thread.

Rules

1.) The standard rules for any request on Danbooru applies, no one is obligated to respond to any requests or act upon them.

2.) Do not post more than one link at a time. If it is a pool, only post the first post of a pool and state how long the pool is. And how big each page is and how much text there is. This is work for you, but the more work you put into a request, the more likely it is to be picked up.

3.) When requesting, try to avoid to post works here that have yet to be approved or are relatively new, such as a week or two old, since it is likely that it was already seen by a translator and may be worked on later.

4.) Don't cause problems if your request isn't answered, that helps no one.

5.) Be sure to list if it is SFW or NSFW. Be aware that many translators do not like translation pornographic works since most are repetitive in content and boring to translate.

6.) List the copyright, such as touhou, pokemon, original. If you can, list the artist The more information you can give for a potential translator, the more likely they will respond to it.

7.) Do not attempt to translate something yourself if your grasp of either Japanese or English is not good, this creates more work for translators and this only hurts the chances of a work being translated.

8.) Again, do not just dump links. If you don't put the work into making the request, the translator won't bother to click the link. You can add multiple links if you put the required amount of detail into each one, but be aware of the law of diminishing returns.

9.) If a work is translated, edit your post and add which works were translated.

I was looking at post #312858 and noticed that it was in a pool just labeled "7" (pool #403). There is nothing to describe what the pool is for, nothing that appears as a real unifying theme, and it's private, which makes me believe it's someone's favorites list. Is this an acceptable use for a pool?

Same deal as the other thread, deletion appeals should only be posted here so they don't fill up the main thread listing. Only appeal things you have really, really good reason to. Frivolous appeals will only make things harder for you.

EDIT: READ THESE RULES BEFORE POSTING (also available at about:deletion_appeals):

1) Read about:mod_queue. Then read it again.

2) Use the post #xxxxx syntax to link to your images, using the ID number of the image. You can find this in the URL, as well as under "Statistics" on the left side menu on each image page.

3) You "appeal" an image, we "approve" them. If it's good. Do not ask us to "appeal" your images. You've already done that by mentioning them in the thread.

4) Never appeal a post twice. Multiple mods saw it the first time you did. They also saw it when it was first uploaded. It got its fair shot.

5) Never appeal all your deleted posts at once. Only appeal the absolute best. If all or most of your uploads have been deleted, you need to lurk more and get a better idea of what is acceptable.

6) Never expect or demand feedback or justification. You may get some, if anyone feels like providing it or has anything specific to say. However there are too many appeals and too many other things for us to do for us to have time to critique every appeal.

7) You may appeal images you did not upload.

8) Don't be an ass. Seriously. You'll just get banned. No, being polite doesn't make your image any better, but being rude does you no favors either. And if it does get you banned, appeals will be your last concern.

The deletion appeal thread is a place to bring up images you think deserve a second chance. Nothing more, nothing less.

Reminder on how to use this thread (see also the first post).

Paraphrased from forum #25998, regarding deletion of unneeded posts from this thread: Extraneous chatter in this thread is likely to be deleted, and in the worst cases, negative records will be left for those who ignore the rules.

The lengthiest discussion that should generally be allowed about a single appeal is:

1) Uploader lists a few appeals (always)
2) A mod explains the reasons for deletion (occasionally)
3) User replies only if the deletion/explanation was based on factually incorrect information; i.e., it was not a nude filter and here's the link on the artist's website for proof. (rarely)

End. Anything beyond that is almost never going to be needed. Maybe an "oh you're right, undeleted" if applicable. Almost everything else can be removed.

For the most part, there's no need to go beyond step 1. Uploader appeals it, we look at it, and either it gets undeleted or it doesn't. Uploaders who pursue beyond this point are generally the ones uploading terrible images or not reading the rules anyway.

I also want janitors and mods to be more polite in response to appeals. Yes, an image may be shit. But we don't necessarily have to say that. I've often thought it, but I try to let the fact that I didn't approve their appeal speak for me. Some people only really get set off if they receive an unnecessarily blunt reply.

Unfortunately, some people won't "get it" unless you're really blunt, but hopefully they can be dealt with in ways that keep appeal thread clutter to a minimum.

Reason: 'crotch_tattoo' is the variant used in the rather popular 'nhentai' site, and while it's probably not necessary to change Danbooru's usage of 'pubic_tattoo' as the main/original/default one, it's probably useful to have people trying to use the tag as they'd see in on said site, be redirected to its equivalent over here

'womb_tattoo' is another variant that is used in a couple of other places. Although the name implies the presence of a womb and as such wouldn't be applicable for a male, it has been used even in the cases of males in other places simply due to what it's usually used to and the general concept it refers to. aliased like this means it's not necessary to create a separate tag to be used only when the image in question has a female (not that pubic_tattoo on males is something you see frequently)

While looking through the doctor_(arknights) tag, i ran into deathalice's self-insert(?).
Looking through the artist's posts, i noticed said OC is always tagged as either commander_(azur_lane) or female_commander_(girls_frontline), depending on the game.

My point is: should they, along with other similar instances, be tagged as the protagonist or not?
Their design is, most of the time, nothing alike the canon or "generally accepted" design. For example, in post #3835590 there's nothing about her clothes resembling the official clothes.

I could also make some complaint about female_doctor_(arknights) and female_commander_(girls_frontline), since they don't have a male counterpart, and in the Doctor's case they do not have any canon gender.

Following forum #134716. What I've left out currently:

alias elphelt_(guilty_gear) -> elphelt_valentine

Their full names are well known.

alias anji_mito -> mito_anji (or vice versa)
alias jam_kuradoberi -> kuradoberi_jam (or vice versa)

And these could go either way, but the pixiv tag they're best known by suggests that it should follow the usual Japanese convention of lastname firstname. But depending on the source material and howto:character, the other way could also be considered valid.

Slightly related, but there might also be interest in creating these implications:

imply order-sol -> sol_badguy
imply robo-ky ii -> robo-ky

Former is a somewhat well-known variation of Sol, latter is usually umbrella tagged under robo-ky (who is rarely drawn to begin with).

This is why horn should imply horns. Keeping them separate doesn't work, it requires splitting every horn tag into two different versions. It's also not consistent with how we treat other singular tags like single wing or single thighhigh.

Requesting the horn version first but if it's accepted I'll also request the same for fang/fangs.

There's no reason for these to be separated. This also causes problems with things like horns through headwear, fangs out, etc that cannot be implied because of mixups between the tags, which are currently kept separate.

Previous "discussions" in topic #16050 and topic #16062 (seems nobody wanted to really touch this topic before because of the size of the tags).
