Tag alias: kawanishi_shidenkai -> kawanishi_n1k2-j

Should it be expanded to kawanishi_n1k? As long as the tag's being changed, IMHO we may as well expand it to encompass all N1Ks, including pre-Shiden Kai variants and non-N1K2-Js.

N1K is the Kyofu seaplane fighter.

Only the N1K-Js qualify for the 'Shiden' name. With the 2J being the Shiden-kai.

That's more or less what I'm asking - do the pre-Shiden seaplane variants of the N1K differ sufficiently to warrant a separate tag? (and if so, should it be applied with or instead of the tag for the land-based versions? post #1050286, for example, with an A6M2-N, is tagged with both a6m_zero and nakajima_a6m2-n) Also, "N1K" covers the whole family; the Kyofu and Shiden are just subfamilies within it.

Makes more sense to tag them as part of a single family. While the pre-Shiden variants differ (by quite a lot), I don't think such a distinction is being made over here when it comes to tagging. Good examples would be variants of the F-15 Eagle and F/A-18 Hornets, we do not separate the Strike Eagle from the normal Eagle, and the same goes to the Super Hornet and (legacy) Hornet (the Super Hornet is a completely different plane by all intents). This without adding in the fact not everyone could spot out variants of each plane with their mk.1 eyeballs (no, I still have trouble differentiating Bf 109s they're the same thing to me).

I would go with 279okshap's suggestion.

Actually, I don't know why Japanese aircraft tags have manufacturers as part of them, because from what I've noticed none of the others (bf_109 comes into mind) had them.

Stand by.

I will make a topic expanding this problem.

Might as well make a topic to standardize all fighter aircraft.
