Problem with lamia->monster_girl implication

Posted under Tags

So, doesn't Lamia refer to one specific person in mythology? (rather than a race)
And we currently have naga aliased to lamia as well. I assume that's because they share the same visuals.
But we also have snake_girl aliased to lamia.

We could remove the implication from lamia to monster_girl.

Or we could use snake_girl and snake_boy tags instead of lamia.
And those implicate monster_girl / monster_boy (unless they're kept so general as to refer to minor snake-features on a character (slit_pupils, forked_tongue)

Final Fantasy used Lamia to refer to a race of snake women starting with Final Fantasy II it appears. It wouldn't be surprising if it was something like that that set in motion the term to be more generally used like it is in anime, manga, and game series to refer to a race of half-women half-snakes.

Naga's alias to Lamia would likely be due to similarity in visuals. The name's origin is apparently with ancient Indian mythology of a race of snake people, and with more modern depictions, like Warcraft, probably reinforcing the half-snake half-human appearance.

If the term Lamia is associated more with half-woman half-snake depictions, we might want to consider flipping the Naga -> Lamia alias. As far as I understand it, Naga seems to be open for either gender (though going by wikipedia "A female nāga is a nāgī or nāgiṇī"). Going with removing the monster_girl implication we could just manually input monster_girl or monster_boy tags.
