Tag alias: clevage_cutout -> cleavage_cutout

Posted under Tags

Clevage is a total mispelling of thr word cleavage. I think the alias should be removed.

And now...how are aliases removed?
I don't really see another way but the bulk update and use unaliase aaa -> bbb

That's correct.

Before jumping the gun on removing that alias, isn't the point that it was a commonly misspelled word, which is why the alias exists in the first place?

The alias may exist to reduce cleanup effort caused by people frequently enough misspelling the word. Removing the alias would only serve to potentially create more work in the long run.

Let's try it out first and if there are enough misspellings of the word cleavage as a tag, then the alias can be reinstated.

The justification for doing it seems flimsy at best. Doing anything to the alias is more work than just leaving it alone when the alias existing has seemingly no impact or additional work on our part.

The way I view this is like a genetic mutation. Right now the gene is either beneficial (preventing bad tagging) or neutral (doing nothing). Leaving it alone provides zero risk to us right now. On the other hand making the change to it can only be at best neutral (does nothing) or detrimental (increase in bad tagging). Given this I do not see the logic of removing it outside of putting the goal of removing it first and justification for why it should be removed second.

edit: The alias also isn't unique (although doesn't mean it's common either), but here are a few similar corrective aliases that exist: ace_atourney -> gyakuten_saiban, embarassed -> embarrassed, felatio -> fellatio.
