Visually, the uniform is indistinguishable from the profession. This is the same reason nurse uniform is aliased to nurse and maid uniform is aliased to maid. The chef wiki already includes a description of the uniform.

Not to play devil's advocate here... but would you still tag the uniforms if no one was wearing them? And if so, would they still want to alias to chef and maid?

I can't speak for anyone else, obviously, but personally I would tag the unworn components of the uniform as they are: chef hat, apron, double-breasted white jacket, etc. How can individual articles of clothing constitute a uniform unless someone is wearing them?

Because of the constitution of such things. If the whole set is there, I'd go definitely with the tag amount that has the lowest amount of tags. So, to make things simple, I'd tag them as a chef uniform.
With a removed tag, though. But this doesn't justify to not imply those things. The bikini_removed tag is also implying bikini even though nobody is wearing them :P.

Sometimes someone will wear the uniform yet not be in that profession - a person cosplaying as a maid by wearing the uniform isn't a maid when they're a call girl... nor is Pepperoni from Girls und Panzer a chef, even though she cooks and wears the uniform when manning their lunch booth.

Unless we decide that anyone wearing a military uniform is in the military, I don't see why that implication should be allowed (especially when most of the Girls und Panzer girls wear them when in their teams, but are clearly students). And employee uniforms would imply what profession, with that precedent?

I didn't think the schools in Girls und Panzer are actually military academies, though.

"Chef uniform" described a particular pattern of clothes. The character may not actually be a chef in the image. See for instance, post #2268160 which is a waitress.
