Similar to how ;) implies smile and one eye closed. As :) is aliased to smile, so too :( is aliased to frown so there is a parallel there as well.

Various other ;* tags like ;p and ;d also already imply one eye closed.

I wouldn't call post #3048796, post #2862978, or post #2960760 frowns, so either it's situational or the tag's in need of a clean-up.

I removed ;( from the second and third of those, and the children of the second one, as they aren't that expression - the mouth on post #2862978 and children is even upturned on one side, while post #2960760 is 3;.

I suppose post #3048796 is more in light frown territory, and light frown does not imply frown. I'd be okay with removing that part of the implication on that basis, but would argue that if we go down that route then the ;) to smile implication should also be removed as light smile doesn't imply smile and there are a fair few images with the light_smile ;) combination.
