I think I'm a little too late for this thread, but if anyone gets a notification for this or checks this thread's status, then I'm in need of help. I turned off tooltips when i was logged out by pressing the (X), then it told me to log in to turn them off, so after doing that, (I can't remember if it took me to the settings page where I manually turned it off or it simply logged me in with tooltips off, this was almost a year ago) I found that nowhere in settings or anywhere on in the website was there a way to turn them off (at least I couldn't find them).

I've noticed it's possible to have the mouse pointer in-between the tooltip and the picture (about 3 pixels) so the tip disappears. Would it help to have it right up against the picture, or to have the area between "count" as part of the picture?

Just found an annoyance with the current tooltip. If you edit the tags through the edit mode (when you looking at the listing and not at a single post), tags in the tooltip won't get updated until you refresh the page. Would be nice if the tooltip also update without refreshing the page.

I had reservations about the first version of the new tips, but this is neat (on Firefox 59). Thanks!

Now that the tooltips are shown and hidden more smoothly, I support coloring the tags by default. The tips usually appear because you want to see them, and colored tags provide a more effective summary of the post.

Changes

Added disable option.
Moved tooltips to above thumbnails.
Reduced sensitivity by 66% (raised delay from 450ms to 750ms).
Reduced width and height (new size is 3 thumbnails wide, 6 lines tall).
Made tag list more compact.
Only show tag colors when hovering over tooltip.
Added header bar with more info: top tagger, upload date, score, favcount, comment count, source, rating, image dimensions.
Added list of series pools, along with page number and page count.
Reduced scrollbar size (Chrome only).

Fixes

Fixed tooltips getting stuck.
Fixed tooltips appearing on touch devices.
Fixed tooltips not hiding after clicking the thumbnail or pressing keys.

Some further notes on the above:

Tooltips only being colored on hover is a compromise to bring the new tooltips back to feeling more like the old tooltips by default. I'm still on the fence about this.

Disabling tooltips requires an account, just as other user preferences require an account. This is so that disabling them will be permanent. Other methods (namely cookies) wouldn't be permanent, which I think would be more displeasing than having to make an account.

Use the disable option to disable tooltips instead of hiding them with custom CSS, otherwise they'll still be loaded in the background.

The HTML structure has changed, so custom CSS may need to be updated.

I did not like the tooltips because they got in the way of any mass editing I was doing. Disabling them will be a huge help for me.

I really like the updated tooltips! The overall style (especially the bar on the top) looks professional, and having the tooltip above the thumbnail instead of atop it solves the problem of accidentally clicking a link instead of the thumbnail. Also, I really like the functionality of links to open the source or direct image without needing to visit the post.

Here's a suggestion, if you guys agree:

Automatically disable the pop-up entirely for everyone, whenever the tag script is on.

Reason: If you're clicking on a lot of images at once, you might end up clicking some of these tags by accident. I know I unfortunately made that mistake a couple times.

Yeah, I'm constantly getting it staying open when moving the mouse away, on both Opera and Waterfox. Only goes away again when I then mouse-over a different image. Can't tell if evazion's testbooru has fixed that because it's currently Failbooru.

Hey again, had a suggestion for the tooltip if it were good and possible.

Can we perhaps collapse the tags section of the tooltip?
This so that it only shows the non general tags and has a more tags button under them for the rest.

As it is it's a wall of test that probably eats up 1/2 the screen in some cases/on smaller resolutions.
Most of the time you don't really want to see all the tags anyway. If i'm looking at the tooltip tags at all, i just look at copy, char, artist, and ... maybe the number of characters.

The testbooru link gave me the "Something broke" error page.

I looked at devbooru.tk and here's my feedback:

The tooltip is directly above the post.

I think that's an improvement from the current behavior (slightly below the mouse cursor).

The tooltip text is initially all grey. The tags don't get their colors until you move your mouse into the tooltip.

Without the color, it is very hard to pick out the different kinds of tags (artist, copyright, etc.). A person shouldn't have to move their mouse into the tooltip to get that.

It is impossible to copy text from the tooltip.

I can't use keyboard shortcut because the tooltip dismisses when holding down some modifier keys.
I can't copy text via the context menu, since the tooltip dismisses the moment you move the mouse onto the context menu.

The tooltip header has an X button that allows you to turn off the tooltips.

Good... but it requires that you login to turn them off. How many Danbooru visitors don't have an account and how many of those will want to turn the tooltips off?

Clicking items near the top of the tooltip is difficult. It's too easy to have your mouse overshoot, at which point the tooltip disappears.

Increase how far the mouse has to go for the tooltip to disappear or increase time it takes to disappear.
