I'm not sure the two styles are worth trying to keep separate at this point; bowtie stands at nearly fifty thousand posts and isn't going anywhere. But I can understand the rationale behind this tag, as in the past I've felt hesitant about tagging some of the bigger, flashier bows as bowties.
iridescent_slime/users/438068tag:danbooru.me,2005:ForumPost/1465322018-04-30T21:42:56-04:002018-04-30T21:52:36-04:00@chilled_sake: +1

For our purposes that would make much more sense to me and conveys an intuitive meaning. In the West also bowties are widely worn by men. I think there's a difference between how we are using the word and the colloquial understanding of it.

Edit: This request has brought it to my attention that I've been tagging with neck_bow without even realizing, just because it looks right to me. I think either way an alias is needed here.
chilled_sake/users/463832tag:danbooru.me,2005:ForumPost/1465242018-04-30T19:09:40-04:002018-04-30T19:09:40-04:00@BrokenEagle98: +1, because otherwise what constitutes a bowtie...
+1, because otherwise what constitutes a bowtie or a neck bow will be a mostly subjective call, and that'll make it harder to tag for everyone. It's what I always tag when I come across such instances.
BrokenEagle98/users/23799tag:danbooru.me,2005:ForumPost/1465172018-04-30T17:00:27-04:002018-05-01T01:35:50-04:00@user_525419: create alias neck_bow -> bowtie
