@ion288 I don't believe an answer to any of your questions exists, because there is no specific trait or combination of traits that is both common to and unique to all gods and goddesses. It's like trying to describe what a waitress looks like; their appearances vary so much that any attempt to neatly define them without having to make exceptions is doomed to fail. You have to know them when you see them.

I took an axe to that tag a few days ago and dealt with a few hundred of the worst examples of mistagging. The bulk of the problematic posts were canon goddesses from various copyrights (Neptune, Oh! My Goddess, The World God Only Knows, and UFO Princess Valkyrie were all big offenders) wearing casual outfits and looking very un-goddess-like. We could clamp down a bit tighter on the tag and limit it to images with overt divine symbolism like post #2108111 or post #2333699 or post #2977371, but if people are using this tag to search for random images of tunic-clad Palutena or Belldandy with outstretched wings, I don't see any harm in that either. This tag isn't inherently any more problematic than, say, amazon or elf.

I tried to clean this a year ago. How do we separate it from angel or magic users that float and sparkle?
And how does a goddess dress? Should I study shinto to determine that?

Frankly I would like to see a few posts where the tag is warranted att all.

I only found out that wrapped candy existed a couple of days ago so I've used candy wrapper for the candy type seen in post #3653864 all this time.

Based on the description alone, it doesn't seem very useful to me at all. It's basically just the animated tag except that it arbitrarily excludes animated_gif and animated_png images, so it doesn't appear to be vital to any given search.

Speaking of, does anyone else have any trouble actually performing a video search to see how the tag has been used? All I get is a "nil can't be coerced into Float" error.

EDIT: It's working now, for some reason. Looking at the posts that have this tag, I have even less of a clue what the tag is good for. It isn't being used for what the wiki says, that much is clear.

Fair enough. After you sent that message, I believe I removed all comic pages like post #3033428 and left only the 4koma posts tagged square_comic.

To be specific, I removed square comic from these posts: post #3033428, post #3617718, post #3613776, and post #3569728.

If needed for whatever reason, feel free to readd that tag (that's one reason why I'm listing the posts here). Also let me know if I missed anything.

Interestingly, your example post #3033428 (the one you said is not a 4koma) was originally tagged 4koma.

4koma can be any of vertical, horizontal or in a square format - all of these are 4koma. They are just comics with 4 panels of the same size and shape. The vertical style is by far the most common, but the others are all 4koma. The wiki is what was wrong, not the tag use.

Do we need all these comic tags? All of them were made and populated by a single user without any previous discussion on the forums, the panel ones are also being tagged on *koma posts which means they have 2 tags saying the same thing.

I created those tags. Someone on forum #144074 mentioned how the *koma tags have been commonly used for non-vertical images.

Admittedly, I have also used *koma tags for non-vertical images in the past (as seen in the history of post #1034993 for instance).

Of all the *koma tags, only the wikis of 2koma and 4koma currently say the comics must be vertical.

Maybe *koma (wildcard search) could replace vertical comic, except I removed a bunch of non-vertical comics tagged *koma which were not helping. Also 1koma doesn't help either (because that tag is just 1 panel per page). Other than that, I find horizontal comic definitely an interesting format. It seems rarer on Danbooru than I initially predicted. (But it seems common on Western newspaper strips.)

I'd like to clean up the *koma tags by removing the non-vertical images. This is assuming we want *koma tags for vertical images in the first place. I've been removing *koma tags from some of these images and adding *panels in their place. In case you want to do anything different, it should be easy to further edit those tags.

If I had just removed *koma without adding *panels and other tags, we would lose information that would make it difficult to further edit them. For instance, @skylightcrystal above said that square comic is a distinctive kind of 4koma. I've been consistently removing the 4koma tag from square comics because they aren't vertical. But if square comic tags need the 4koma for some reason (as a new rule we didn't discuss before), it can be readded (or implied).

Some people have been using *koma for some non-vertical images, that is *koma tags have been used for certain comics regardless of layout. This seems to be some evidence that tags for a number of panels regardless of layout is wanted to some extent. But we also seem to want tags for vertical comics, which seems the main use of *koma tags. (other than 1koma, which can't be vertical)

If *koma tags are supposed to be always vertical, maybe 1koma could be renamed to 1panel.

Current wikis for *koma tags:

1koma = no wiki (but the concept of "vertical" doesn't apply here)
2koma = "A comic consisting of 2 vertical panels per page."
3koma = "A comic with only three panels."
4koma = "A Japanese four panel vertical comic strip. An example is Azumanga Daiou."
5koma = "A five-panel comic."
6koma = no wiki
7koma = no wiki
8koma = no wiki
9koma = no wiki

I think the square comic one has definite value as it's a very distinctive kind of 4koma, which is also a definite minority variation.

Can't really say the same about vertical or horizontal comic, although I'd certainly not be opposed to having them. 2panels etc. is completely pointless.
