I read through forum #147470 after writing the wiki for holding_hair and recalled the hair_grab tag which more or less conveys the same thing. Hair_grab seems to imply a more forceful grab rather than a gentle snatch like holding_hair does, but hair_grab still has some gentler examples, which sort of makes the whole thing messy for cleaning up.

Would there be any objection if I started creating and populating grabbing_own_hair and grabbing_another's_hair tags, as suggested in the other forum? There didn't seem to be an issue with this idea, but nothing was really done about it.

No one? I'll err on the side of caution and not do anything if I don't hear anything from you guys.

Bumping this topic. I think having grabbing own hair and grabbing another's hair is a good idea.

Also I vaguely remember that years ago someone said that holding_hair should be used for holding detached hair. I don't remember which topic it was, but it makes sense given that's how we use the other holding_* tags.

Well, we definitely need to do something, and separating things into grabbing own hair vs grabbing another's hair is a good place to start. Hair grab, hair pull, and holding hair are all ambiguous and ought to be eliminated in favor of better tags.

Dividing up the tags this way makes sense to me. Just one question: do we need separate tags to help distinguish between gently holding someone's hair (post #883335, post #3148471) from tugging on it (post #1672157)? Or should we roll these up into the same tag?

Yeah, after going through these tags, I think having separate tags for grabbing another's hair versus gently holding another's hair will be necessary. They'll probably require some monitoring though, I expect some taggers will get them mixed up.

I've migrated some posts from hair grab / hair pull to grabbing another's hair, but I'm going to need some help to finish cleaning these tags up.
