Well it's sort of complicated. The games and the anime don't share completely the same universe.

Sapphire and haruka aren't the same character - though they look almost like twins they aren't:

Sapphire's fang-like teeth also seem to be a distinguisher, though in searching through the non-Special sapphire tags, only one stood out as part of the comics (though the what-the-artist-said thing could play in, since there are many closed-mouth pics).

EDIT: Ah, and from those profiles above, I remember that Sapphire's pack remained yellow. What has May's been shown as after the costume change?

They looked different enough in those two posts (different hairstyle etc.), but after checking those wikilinks, I'm quite confused. One reason for not merging the tags, though, might be that if you have multiple Pokemon game characters in the same picture it'd be nicer to have consistent names. Most of the time it shouldn't be too hard to know what the artist intended, too, from the pixiv tags or the file name or the text in the blog post.

As far as I can tell - they just look the same: As do red_(pokemon) and satoshi_(pokemon) in some way.

When haruka_(pokemon) was a main character in the series, her clothing style were a kinda different from sapphire_(pokemon). So these posts are typical haruka_(pokemon) images:

Pokemon threads always seem incomprehensible to me, but as far as I can see they look the same, so I'd think that using just one tag would be the best idea. Mention the other in the wiki.

Agreed with Ephyon. There should only be one tag, especially when you consider that 80% of the Sapphire images are tagged Haruka as well. That's 104 images where this girl has two character tags. It's pointless.

You can't SERIOUSLY considering having them split. I can tell Red and Ash apart just fine, but none of the other characters have any graphical difference whatsoever. If the only way to differentiate them is by their surroundings, what is the point of having two tags in the first place? Sapphire is only distinguishable from Haruka when she's with Ruby or using the blue outfit, and even then you're overestimating the attention most posters will put into this, how many do you think will hunt for the telltale signs of it being one or the other, or even be aware such a difference exists?

FeKa's example was horrible, but the point remains: They look identical and keeping two tags would be a mess.

As for the sapphire_(pokemon) and the haruka_(pokemon) tags, I suggest sapphire_(pokemon) be used when the character is present with other manga characters (such as yellow_(pokemon) or blue_(pokemon)), in her tribal leaf bikini (ex. post #344361), or when the picture shows a situation that is distinctly manga. Tag it haruka_(pokemon) for everything else. What do you think?
