joints / doll_joints

Posted under Tags

Should these two tags be merged? joints only has a hundred or so posts while doll joints has 3k, but not all joints are "doll" joints. I don't think there's really any significant distinction besides the size of the joint gap, and even then nobody distinguishes between the "actual" doll joints, ie the ones where only very thin grey lines are shown, from normal mechanical joints when tagging.

Is an alias from doll_joints to joints fine?

Doll_joints is for the simple type of joints like you see on dolls, mannequins, and figures. The more high-tech, mechanical type of joints are robot_joints.

I've never seen joints before. It's possible that it was meant to be an umbrella tag for the other two tags, but my guess is that it was created by someone who just wasn't aware that the other two tags exist.

For the sake of keeping search results unambiguous for those who are only interested in seeing one type of joint or the other, let's keep doll_joints and robot_joints separate.

TBH I didn't even know robot_joints was a thing. I'll go through the joints tag and sort them and then request implications to make joints an umbrella tag.

I'm a little bit wary of the tag joints. If this implication goes through the visibility of this tag will increase substantially. Are we then going to start seeing it on every post with knees or elbows?

Well that's not what this tag is for, so those would be mistags. They can be caught with "joint -doll_joint -robot_joint" anyway if someone decides to start using it in a wrong way.
