alias directional_arrow -> arrow_(directional); update arrow -> arrow_(weapon)

Posted under Tags

The bulk update request #2590 is pending approval.

remove alias directional_arrows -> directional_arrow
create alias directional_arrow -> arrow_(directional)
create alias directional_arrows -> arrow_(directional)

Just an idea.

Reasons:

1- It would follow the format "simple word (qualifier)". We have bow (weapon) for instance. (instead of weapon bow?)
2- If the tag starts with "arrow", the autocomplete can do the rest.
3- Using "arrow" seems intuitive. It may not be obvious to everyone that we currently use "directional arrow", unless they do some research and read the wikis or something.

Apparently directional arrow was created in topic #2202, from 2009.

Edit: BUR changed as discussed below.

Updated

If anything it should be arrow_(directional). arrow_(direction) is a pretty awkward name.

It's probably worth moving arrow to arrow_(weapon) too, since otherwise people will just keep using it for both. That way arrow can be a disambiguation tag from which errors can be sorted in the proper tag.

OK, I changed from "arrow_(direction)" to "arrow_(directional)" now.

The bulk update request #2591 is pending approval.

remove implication holding_arrow -> arrow
remove implication arrow_in_head -> arrow
remove implication hamaya -> arrow
create implication holding_arrow -> arrow_(weapon)
create implication arrow_in_head -> arrow_(weapon)
create implication hamaya -> arrow_(weapon)
mass update arrow -> arrow_(weapon)

Here's a separate BUR to use arrow_(weapon). This is similar to the existing bow_(weapon).

There's got to be something better than arrow_(weapon) as well, given that an arrow is not a weapon. Arrow_(projectile) perhaps?

Well, hamaya is neither a weapon nor a projectile, but it implies arrow...

I actually thought about this at first too, but it turns out that arrows are considered projectile weapons. In any case, I agree that arrow_(projectile) makes more sense and it's better overall, but the word "projectile" might be a little harder to understand for non-native speakers than "weapon" (which, arguably, is more common than projectile). This site is in English however, so I'm in either side.

Weapons made for ceremonial purposes are still weapons, aren't they? There are numerous real-world coronation swords that are too blunt and unbalanced for combat, but I see how anyone could deny that they are weapons.

Well, hamaya depicted in anime pictures are typically arrows without the tip - they're just wood shafts with feathers. I would hardly call a sword hilt without the blade a weapon.
