yuki_onna and other such tags

Posted under General

I noticed the tag yuki onna, which refers to a character from the manga nurarihyon no mago. In that manga, there are a bunch of characters who are named after (or rather are) various youkai from Japanese mythology. Tagging practice seems to have been to use the name of the type of creature they are (such as in this case yuki onna, which is a type of youkai ) without putting any sort of qualifier on it.

Two of the characters, including the yuki onna character, have "human aliases" they take when they are disguising themselves as humans. I'm wondering if I shouldn't just move the images currently tagged as yuki onna to oikawa tsurara to avoid clashes later.

Thoughts?

I'd say use the human alias as the dominate name. We really shouldn't reserve the creatures name for a specific character.

I'm not fully sure on how the youkai/monster's tags should be fully utilized, but I'm thinking along the lines that the characters that follow the traditional description should be tagged with it, while characters that canonically are that kind of being but don't fit the description only being included in a list under the wiki.

At a glance I'd support using the human aliases, but I'm not familiar with the series. How often do the use/how prominent is the human name?

The main character has youkai for servants/minions, and a couple of them habitually follow him to school to watch over him - while they're there in human form, and in their communications with other students, they take on Japanese names, but outside of the school or when "normal humans" are not around they're generally referred to just by the type of youkai they are. A good portion of the characters therefore only know them by the human aliases, though of the two only yuki onna's interactions with normal humans are much emphasized (the other one goes off and hangs out with a biker gang when at school, which isn't seen too often).

The other youkai besides those two don't seem to have any human aliases, at least so far. But yuki onna, at least so far, is overwhelmingly the character from this manga with the most posts on danbooru, so I think it's still a relevant question.

This seems like a situation where I'd *like* to use the youkai names but the only acceptable way would be with a qualifier, and, meh.

Yeah, go with the human name in this case.
