Well the group_sex wiki states:
"Group sex is sexual behaviour involving more than two participants at the same time."
A threesome is sex with 3 participants, group sex is >2 participants, therefor threesome is also counted as group sex.
Though the actual removing of *some was just a suggestion for simplicity sakes, as many group_sex images that should but aren't tagged with three/foursome in the first place, probably because the posters/taggers just wanted to leave it as group_sex.
Anyways not my decision to make ^_^
The wiki says to use threesome only with two women with one man (or yuri with three women), and to use gangbang instead when there's more than one man. However, the tag itself isn't consistent with that. Seems like something needs fixing there (either the wiki definition or the images in the tag).

Well, not that I mentioned gangbang, but you bring up a good point. Real wikipedia says "A threesome is a form of group sex involving three people of any gender combination."
However, gangbang isn't just a woman and 2+ males, it can also be a male and 2+ women, as stated by wikipedia: "A gang bang typically is a form of group sex where a person has sexual relations with [two] or more partners and is not to be confused with a threesome. Gang bangs vary in activity, but most gang bangs include sexual intercourse, oral sex, and masturbation performed on a person." I guess it just depends on how far you want to take the definitions <_<
For simplicity sakes, once again I suggest scrapping *some and just turning those into group_sex (of them that don't already have that tag). Also a lot of the group_sex images which should be marked *some aren't...
What Wikipedia says is meaningless, we define terms here to best suit our needs.
I think it would probably be worthwhile to be able to distinguish 1 man and multiple women from 1 woman and multiple men. Those are fairly distinct concepts, and a search for one would not necessarily imply you wanted the other.
Of course, how do you go about doing that...
I don't see a reason to scrap any tags yet. To organize them better, I think simply expanding or constricting some of the current definitions would suffice. For example expand threesome to cover any group of 3 people having sex, but retain gangbang as one female and 2+ males. In this case then you can find threesomes of one female and 2 males by doing threesome gangbang, and the reverse with -gangbang threesome.
There is no reason to mess with the gangbang tag, since altering it on the number of females would destroy it's usefulness.
Well technically a gang bang is when a single person is having sex/being raped by many other people. This could be 1 girl having sex with 3 guys, or 1 guy being raped by 2 crazy girls with strapons, etc...but whatever, I can see what people want from what Fencedude is saying

But anyways, what would foursome be? 2 girls/guys always? 3 girls/1 guy always?
Back to the issue at hand: three/foursome implication with group_sex, does anyone disagree? :o
I believe that it should be tagged with both a group_sex and threesome (or more) group_sex means more than two individuals engaging in sexual activity. The entire concept of tagging these posts is for detailed searches. Some people do not want complete sluts or man whores while others believe that some can have more than one love at a time.
We should keep both the tags and tag where needed.
Not going to get into whether we need to divvy up by gender makeup right now, but it makes sense to me that we should keep threesome (foursome+ seems disposable to me) and implicate it to group_sex, so I've done that.
Alright then, with your permission, I'll replace foursome with group_sex, and edit the wikis for foursome(saying to use groupsex for 4+), as well as threesome/gangbang(these 2 tags seem to differ in the kind of "activity" going on in the image, regardless of genders, I'd somehow try to explain that)
